چکیده

In rural Ethiopia, people consume mainly cereals and pulses. Integrating vegetables into the multi-storey cropping system of Yayu Coffee Forest Biosphere Reserve could improve nutritional health while reducing pressure on natural habitats in biodiversity hotspot. The aim study was to assess performance cowpea under shade its consumer acceptance as leafy vegetables. Trials compared continuous harvesting with uprooting, food preference tested. A baseline survey conducted four villages revealed that coffee plantations would be adoptable by 17% farmers. cumulatively harvested mean leaf yield (18.15 t ha−1) significantly higher than uprooted (6.56 ha−1). As many 41% (52%) participants liked dishes (very much). Based trial yields RDA, a 25 m2 plot produce sufficient vitamin for 2.1–4.6 adults, iron 0.8–1.7, C 1.3–2.9 adults during six months. Cowpea successfully cultivated below coffee, yielded most when repeatedly showed high among consumers. consumption leaves from forests contribute balanced diet improved nutrition.

Recent advances in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...

The effect of feeding rats purified cowpea (Vigna unguiculata Walp.) trypsin (EC 3.4.21.4) inhibitor in a semi-synthetic high-quality diet based on lactalbumin (10 g inhibitor/kg) for 10 d was a moderate reduction in the weight gain of rats in comparison with controls, despite an identical food intake in the two groups. The reduction in the growth rate was about 20% on a live weight basis. Howe...

A Review of Molecular Makers Applied in Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) Breeding

In recent years, with the rapid development of molecular biology, molecular markers have been widely used in genetic breeding of various crops including cowpea. However, molecular researches in cowpea are lack of systematic summary. This review presents an overview of accomplishments on different aspects of molecular markers in cowpea genetic breeding, such as genetic diversity analysis, geneti...
